Lancaster University, Engineering Building

Lancaster, UK. 2015

The practice's scheme for the Engineering Department at Lancaster University has won three RIBA awards, including a National Award, and the British Construction Industry Award. The scheme includes 5,000m² of workshop, laboratory and teaching space in two concrete framed brick-clad ‘finger’ blocks along two sides of a four-storey atrium, where internal walkways link all floors. The building achieved a BREEAM 'Outstanding' rating, and the design ensured that solar, wind-power and biomass systems produced publicly visible real-time performance data, highlighting the building’s exemplary environmental credentials.
