Grow Brighton Masterplan
The practice is masterplanner and architect for this £100 million zero-carbon mixed-use regenerative scheme in Brighton set to transform the quarter occupied by the former municipal market. The scheme will create 175 new homes and offices, retail outlets and community buildings, providing over 600 jobs for the area.
The project contains an extraordinary mix of functions: a street market, retail with cafe, childrens’ nursery, library, gallery and dance studios. Multi-occupancy workspaces will promote small and medium businesses which, with the new apartments, will attract a diverse range of occupants. At the heart of the development is a new landscaped public space.
This mix of complementary and contrasting building types is sustained within a highly flexible low energy-use environment, serviced by centralised combined heat and power plant, and waste management and recycling facilities. All residential accommodation will be car-free, as the site is perfectly placed for public transport links to the city centre and surrounding districts.
