The proposals for Birley Fields, Hulme, are part of MMU's project to consolidate its operations onto two campuses, from the present seven. JMP's design seeks to create the UK's greenest university campus by encompassing the “three zeros” – a neutral carbon footprint, water self-sufficiency and no off-site waste disposal. The objective is to create a test-bed for research and the evaluation of new models of sustainability within an urban environment.
