John McAslan + Partners has been appointed as collaborating architect to work alongside a New York based JV between WSP and FXC on the Preliminary Design of the Penn Reconstruction, the transformation of New York's Penn Station.
Penn Station is the Western Hemisphere's busiest transit hub. Located beneath Madison Square Garden in midtown Manhattan, the existing station has reached the end of its design life. It is cramped and presents a poor experience for commuters and visitors alike.
The Penn Reconstruction will transform Penn into a first-class transit hub that is customer focussed, reconfiguring the concourse into a single level facility and creating dramatic new entrances and supported by enhanced amenities, new retail and improved accessibility.
