Sharon Drew: Immersion
Drew’s large-scale abstract paintings build up opaque and translucent layers with repetitive and rhythmic gestures, emulating the constant fluctuations of nature. Capturing the essence of the artist's visits to urban and coastal shorelines, the works evoke sensations of light, colour, rhythm and movement.
Contrasting with the measured and methodical approach of architects, Drew's works result from letting the material lead the way, carefully limiting her control of the paint. The effect of this in-the-moment spontaneity and sense of immersion is shared with the viewer.
