A recent article in BD Online“UK Design Capital of the Year: How Glasgow is Setting New Standards for Sensitive Regeneration” – explores how Glasgow has emerged as a national exemplar in urban renewal, sustainability, and heritage-led regeneration. The piece highlights how the city is investing in thoughtful, long-term design strategies that prioritise place, people, and cultural legacy.

John McAslan + Partners is proud to be part of this transformation. Our revitalisation of The Burrell Collection – one of Glasgow’s most treasured cultural institutions – is a standout example of the city’s commitment to sensitive, sustainable renewal. Reopened in 2022, the project has since received multiple accolades and significantly increased public access to its world-class collection.

Building on that success, JMP is currently leading the transformation of George Square, Glasgow’s civic heart, as part of the broader Avenues programme – an ambitious initiative to reshape the city centre’s streetscape for future generations. These projects exemplify the city’s design-led approach public realm enhancement, and cultural identity.

We’re pleased to see Glasgow’s regeneration strategy gaining recognition – and to be contributing to a city that’s setting the standard for urban change in the UK.
