Bond Street Station

London, UK. 2022

The practice partnered with engineers WSP to deliver Bond Street station, a key hub in Crossrail’s Elizabeth line network and the biggest single infrastructure project in Europe, which opened in 2022. The new line handles 200 million more journeys across London than the previous existing networks, substantially increasing passenger capacity and reducing current congestion levels. Two ground-level ticket halls at Davies Street and Hanover Square lie above two deep east-west platforms, and feature sandstone and Portland stone, two locally characteristic materials. The new station, one of the busiest on the Elizabeth line, is connected to the existing Bond Street Underground station network, and the interchange serve nearly 140,000 people daily. As part of its commission, John McAslan + Partners has also undertaken an urban integration and landscaping study in collaboration with the City of Westminster to create enhanced public realm connections in the immediate vicinity of the station.

‘John McAslan + Partners’ design for Crossrail’s Bond Street Station creates an important new interchange. The practice has responded to this enormously challenging project (an integral part of what is currently Europe’s largest construction project) with a design of impressive clarity, providing connections to the existing London Underground station while also delivering deep east-west platforms which emerge at street level via two new ticket halls.’

Julian Robinson, Former Head of Architecture, Crossrail

'Bond Street will be the jewel in the crown of the West End’s transport provision. It is truly spectacular and will provide a highly significant new link to one of the busiest shopping districts in the UK, enabling even further connectivity to jobs and leisure for people across London and the South East.'

Andy Byford, Transport for London’s Commissioner
