Engaging Young People in N17
London, UK. 2015
John McAslan + Partners' N17 pop-up design studio is located in Tottenham near the flash-point of the 2011 riots in the borough. The studio was established to inspire local young people to become actively engaged in the regeneration of their neighbourhoods, offering apprenticeships, work experience, and workshops relating to design, construction, and urban improvement. As sponsors of the initiative, Haringey Council said that the N17 initiative had raised aspirations that supported their long-term ambition that everyone in Tottenham 'has the opportunity to succeed and thrive'.
'John McAslan + Partners' enthusiasm for Tottenham is testament to its potential to be one of London’s centres for creativity, training and opportunity. Equipping our young people with the skills they need to fulfil their potential is at the centre of our regeneration plans for Tottenham, this studio has helped raise aspirations as much as transform an empty building. Creating new business spaces will help us secure a revitalised High Road that supports our long-term ambition that everyone in Tottenham has the opportunity to succeed and thrive.'
