John McAslan + Partners’ design for the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences Dental School has been featured in Architecture Today.
Now under construction, the 3,350 sqm building will become Malawi’s first faculty of dentistry. Designed for the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences, the project is constructed from locally sourced clay bricks, forming 11-metre-high pleated fins that provide passive shading and define the building’s civic identity.
Organised around a central atrium and 100-seat lecture hall, the school will house labs, shared learning spaces and clinical facilities, supporting the next generation of Malawi-trained dentists.
The project forms part of the Scottish Government-funded MalDent partnership with the University of Glasgow.
