Martin Markcrow

Director

Martin Markcrow returned to John McAslan + Partners in 2025 as Design Director, having previously held the same role at the practice between 1996 and 2003. He leads the design of a diverse portfolio of projects across all sectors, including competition schemes, masterplanning, mixed-use, commercial, residential, and transport projects in the UK and internationally, together with management responsibilities within the practice.

Martin has extensive experience working on complex urban sites, many involving conservation areas, heritage settings, and listed buildings. Over the past decade, he has led a number of major masterplanning projects in the UK and the Middle East, and the design development of architectural design guidelines for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. He has also provided design oversight for UK garden city developments and acted as a design reviewer for private developers.

Martin enjoys producing hand drawn sketches and commissioning physical architectural models during the design development of projects as part of an interactive inclusive design process with clients.

Martin has served as an assessor for the Civic Trust Awards and lectured or taught at the following Universities: Oxford Brookes University, Cambridge University, Canterbury College of Art, Cardiff University, University College London.
